Evolution of a Go program

About the development of Moyo Go Studio, software to (help) play the Oriental game of Go. Go is a two-player zero-sum game of perfect information. It is considered much harder than Chess. Currently, in spite of enormous effort expended, no computer program plays it above the level of a beginner.

Free Version Available

I decided, after almost five years of work on Moyo Go Studio, to make it available for free to the Go-playing community.

There is one snag: Updates won't be free. So the free version is a static version - no updates, no bugfixes. No support either - I can't possibly explain thousands of people individually stuff that's also available in the Help file. The free version has only the three Pro databases, if you want 400,000 more games from IGS, NNGS, KGS, Tygem and CyberKiwon then you'll have to order the DVD, a bargain for 49 Euro because whatever I develop in the future will be forever free for paying customers.

Paying customers already have access to a preview (proof-of-concept) of the Publishing Module: Desktop Publishing of Kifu's - including output to (encapsulated) Postscript, PDF, HTML, MS Word and PDF.

There is no change to the update policy. Paying customers can download updates to their DVD version through http://moyogo.com/

The only change is in regard to database updates: They're not downloadable from my site any more but must be ordered on DVD for 12 Euro. Most customers already have the latest databases and new pro games are emailed to my customers anyway. New KGS and IGS games might be made available as ZIP files via my site.
