My old Moyo Go blog!

About the development of Moyo Go Studio, software to (help) play the Oriental game of Go. Go is a two-player zero-sum game of perfect information. It is considered much harder than Chess. Currently, in spite of enormous effort expended, no computer program plays it above the level of a beginner.

SmartGo Being Dumped

Remember when MoyoGo came out? As a result of its overwhelming success (hundreds of sales in Q3 & 4), MasterGo was feeling the heat and they halved their prices so that they would still make a few sales.

It didn't work. MasterGo's sales are in a permanent slump, and so are SmartGo's, after I made a freeware version of Moyo Go Studio.

Let's face it - SmartGo's Go engine is much weaker than GNU Go's, and although you can play GNU Go via both Moyo Go's and SmartGo's interface, why would you pay a premium to play on a goban like SmartGo's? (non-skinnable, non-3D, no studio-recorded, selectable, stereo stone sounds etc.)

Hence the dumping of SmartGo. Example: If you own a copy of "Go Database" (whatever it is), you can get 30 bucks off SmartGo. I guess those pesky database programs give him a headache ;-) No mention of Moyo Go but it never hurts to ask..

I would post a link to the announcement on GoDiscussions.com, but as usual, Blogger doesn't work - this time the markup toolbar is missing. Google is the new Microsoft, only worse because they have even more money and they employ even more arrogant nullo's.
